"Something bad will happen": doomsday fish washed up on a beach in Mexico
A rare paddlefish washed up on a beach in Mexico. According to legend, this creature warns that "something bad is going to happen," which is why it is called a doomsday fish.
The paddlefish, which lives at a depth of 200 to 1000 meters, swam right up to the shore of the Mexican beach of Baja California Sur. Scientists emphasize that these creatures rarely surface, only when they die or become disoriented, Fox9 reports.
"They're almost never seen live. It's amazing that it swam here," said a man who tried to return the fish back to the sea.
"This is a really important find, but no one will believe it. I think it came here to die," he added.
People filmed a video of the paddlefish rescue, which shows it continuing to swim in shallow water after they try to return it to deeper water.
Many people believe that the paddlefish is a harbinger of earthquakes and other natural disasters. Therefore, its appearance near the coast is perceived with caution.
