Sights at every turn: the best city in Europe for hiking has been named

Experts have named the top best European cities for walking, and Florence is at the top of the ranking. Europe boasts a large number of cities that are ideal for walking, offering charming squares, romantic promenades, and incredible medieval architecture.

The new ranking was based solely on the aspects of convenience, comfort, and the presence of a large number of historical monuments per square kilometer. In Florence, tourists can reach the main attractions in just a 10-minute walk.

Florence

Florence is a city in the Tuscany region that has made a tremendous contribution to the development of European and world civilization. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante, and Galileo lived and worked here. The Florentine dialect formed the basis of the literary Italian language, and the Florentine coin became the standard for the whole of Europe in the Middle Ages. It was the thinkers from Florence who launched the Renaissance

Florence is a center of culture and art and the best city for hiking. Just a 10-minute walk and you can reach the main attractions of Florence. The Ponte Vecchio, the famous Duomo Cathedral, and the Uffizi Gallery are conveniently located next to each other, making it easy to visit these iconic places in a short period of time.

Venice

The port city is located on the Adriatic Sea, and the historic center consists of 118 islands of the Venice Lagoon, separated by 150 canals and straits, over which about 400 bridges are spanned. And despite this, Venice is a fairly compact city for hiking. In just a 12-minute walk, you can see such sights as the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square, and the Bridge of Sighs.

Riga

Latvia's largest cultural center is located on the shores of the Gulf of Riga on the Baltic Sea, and the city was founded by the Crusaders in 1201. Walking a little over 3 km, you can explore Riga's key attractions, such as the Cathedral, the House of Black Heads, and the Central Market, where you can buy delicious local snacks to recharge your batteries.

Tourists are advised to visit the Latvian National Art Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the House of Rainis and Aspasia, the Museum of Latvian History, and the Historical Museum.

Athens

Located 8 km northeast of the port of Piraeus in the Aegean Sea, the Greek capital has grown up around the rocky hills of the Acropolis of the Areopagus. In Athens, a 5 km walk will allow you to visit the city's most prominent sights, including the Acropolis and Parthenon, the Agora and the National Garden.
