Shakhtar Donetsk lost to Barcelona in the third round of the Champions League. The match at the Lewis Cupança Olympic Stadium in the Catalan capital ended with a score of 2-1.
"From the first seconds, Barcelona put total pressure on Riznyk's goal. The Ukrainians did not have a single centimeter of free space, and were forced to play a "square" almost in the goalkeeper's area. With no margin for error, Shakhtar's players lost the ball several times, which almost cost them a goal.
In the 11th minute, for the first time, Ukrainian players were able to organize something resembling an attack, which ended with a low shot by Zubkov into the hands of Ter Stegen. The match was played at low speeds. "Barça tried to score a goal without straining too much "on experience".
As soon as Barcelona's players picked up the pace, Shakhtar started to have problems in defense. It was clear that the hosts could add to their lead at any moment.
In the 29th minute, a pass from deep in the box put Lopez one-on-one with Riznyk. The 20-year-old midfielder hit the crossbar, the ball flew to Torres and the left winger of the Spanish national team shot the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
Initially, the Slovak referee recorded the offside position, but after a tip from VAR, he scored the goal. The replay showed that Azarov was closer to his goal than the Spaniard.
In the 36th minute, the score was 2-0. Again, Torres and Lopez organized a two-man rush, which the latter closed with a jewel shot under the crossbar. Once again, Azarov failed to cope with his duties.
After the break, the pattern of the game did not change. "Barcelona simply pressed the Pitmen to the goal with high pressure, forcing the Ukrainians to think exclusively about defense. The visitors' offense ended in the second or third gear.
"The Blue-Garnet were lounging on the field, rolling the ball around in their own half without moving. In the 62nd minute, Javi Hernandez's men paid for such a careless attitude toward the opponent.
Azarov made a perfect pass to Sudakov and the Ukraine midfielder sent the ball past Ter Stegen and into the net with an untouched cannonball.
Immediately, Shakhtar's new coach made a substitution, bringing on Neverton instead of Kryskiv, and 7 minutes later, Kelsey instead of Sikan.
"The Pomegranate Blues tried to storm the field: they hit the post, scored an offside goal, and asked for a penalty, but it didn't affect the score. "Shakhtar also did not sit on the defensive, creating tension in the opponent's goal several times.
It will be recalled that in the 2nd round of the Champions League group stage, the Miners sensationally beat Belgian side Antwerp. The match at the Bosijl Stadium ended with a score of 2-3.
In the first round of the Champions League against Porto, Shakhtar lost (1-3).
