Shakhtar closes first deal of 2025, paying for a Bolivian player 40 times more than his actual cost
Shakhtar Donetsk has signed a contract with 19-year-old Bolivian defender Diego Arroyo. The footballer moved from Bolívar, and the agreement with the Ukrainian club is valid until the end of 2029.
The amount of the Ukrainian club's first winter transfer amounted to $1 million, while Transfermarkt estimates the player at only 25 thousand euros. In addition, Bolívar retained a stake in the rights to Arroyo and will receive a percentage of his future sale.
Arroyo is a graduate of the Academia Tahuichi Aguilera. In 2023, he joined Bolívar and then played in the youth team of the Brazilian team Bahia.
In September 2024, he made his debut for the Bolívar's first team, played three matches and scored one assist. Since November last year, he has also been playing for the Bolivian youth team.
After his transfer, the young Brazilian recorded a short video message for Ukrainian fans.
