Russian Defense Ministry boasts of intercepting two UAVs after explosions in Kursk region
On the night of July 28, unknown drones hit another oil depot in the Kursk region of Russia. While the fires were being extinguished, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the attack had been "stopped."
According to the so-called Russian defense ministry, Russian air defense allegedly managed to shoot down two UAVs over the Kursk region. This message appeared on the official resources of the Russian Defense Ministry.
"Last night, when the Kyiv regime attempted to carry out a terrorist attack using unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in the Russian Federation, regular air defense systems intercepted and destroyed five UAVs over the Belgorod and two UAVs over the Kursk regions," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
At first, the local authorities kept silent about the arrivals. But later, the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, confirmed the damage to the oil depot.
"Last night, Ukrainian drones attacked an oil depot in the Kursk region. Three fuel tanks caught fire. None of the residents and employees of the industrial facility were injured," the official stated.
He also added that 82 rescuers and 32 pieces of equipment are trying to extinguish the fire. By 8 a.m., according to Smirnov, they had managed to extinguish the flames on only one tank.
Earlier, it became known that on July 28, a number of fires broke out in the Kursk region due to UAV attacks. In particular, they were recorded in Medvensky and Kursky districts of the region. In the latter, the oil depot of Polevaya LLC in the village of Polevaya, Kursk district, was on fire.
This is not the first time that unknown drones have attacked it. For example, on February 15, 2024, two diesel fuel tanks, one for 1000 cubic meters and the other for 400 cubic meters, were on fire at this tank farm as a result of a drone attack.
