Nadezhda Oleneva, the 2022 Russian mountaineering champion, has died in Nepal. According to The Himalayan Times, the incident occurred on October 14 on Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal.

A group of three Russian climbers, including 38-year-old Oleneva, was at an altitude of about 6680 meters. At the moment of ascent, the Russian woman slipped and fell about 500 meters. The other two team members descended to the base camp.

It is noted that the climbers tried to climb to the top without the support of the Sherpas. Rescuers were able to reach Oleneva's body only a day later.

On September 24, the Russian champion posted a photo with her colleagues on her Instagram, writing that she was preparing to storm the mountain.

"Dhaulagiri is Nepal's westernmost eight-thousander and the first to receive the blow of the southwest monsoon, which is due to end at the end of September. We are engaged in additional checks and preparation of equipment since it is not yet possible to send the expedition's cargo to the base camp," Oleneva wrote.
