Russian attack on a shopping center in Kostiantynivka: 12 people killed, dozens wounded. Photos and videos

At noon on Friday, August 9, Russian terrorists struck a powerful blow at a shopping center in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. A massive fire broke out at the site. At least 11 people were killed and 44 injured.

Black smoke and fire enveloped the entire building. This was reported by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Vadym Filashkin in Telegram.

"Russians shelled the town with cannon artillery and hit a supermarket. This is another targeted attack on a crowded place, another act of terror from the Russians," emphasized Filashkin.

According to him, one of the wounded is in serious condition. All necessary services are working at the scene. It is not known how many people were in the supermarket at the time of the attack.

As of 12:40, the head of the RMA reported 2 dead and 17 wounded. The search and rescue operation at the crime scene continues.

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has already responded to the shelling. In his Telegram post, he called on the world to respond to systematic and large-scale human rights violations by Russians.

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, said on Telegram that all Russians know how to do is fight civilians.

"Russia must feel the full reckoning for everything it does," he emphasized.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the Russian terrorist attack in Kostiantynivka. He noted that the death toll has risen to 4 people and the number of wounded to 24.

"People are under the rubble. A rescue operation is underway, and everything will be done to save people," the head of state said.

"Russia will be responsible for this terror, and we will do everything to ensure that the world continues to be with Ukraine, supporting our defense and saving the lives of our people," Zelenskyy wrote.

Nova Poshta's Facebook page confirmed that the shopping center that was hit was their cargo department.

"All of our employees are alive, one colleague was injured and is receiving all the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, there are some injuries among the public," the statement said.

The company informed that some of the parcels had survived.

"The estimated cost of the destroyed cargo will be compensated to customers in full," the company assured.

As of 13:52, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported 10 dead and 35 wounded as a result of the Russian attack.

"A total of 45 people were injured in the Russian shelling: 10 were killed and 35 wounded. Residential buildings, shops, and more than a dozen cars were also damaged. The enemy attacks, we rescue and protect. I thank everyone who is with the victims," the minister said.

He added that operational services are working at the scene of the war crime: The State Emergency Service, the police, and a paramedic unit.

At the same time, Filashkin reported 9 dead and 26 wounded as of 14:00.

"It has been established that the enemy launched an air strike on the city with an X-38 missile and hit a supermarket. According to preliminary estimates, in addition to this supermarket, 4 private houses, 9 shops, a car wash, "Nova Poshta", trade pavilions, and 12 cars were damaged," the official said.

Donbas Realities correspondent Serhii Horbatenko reported from the scene that the body of a child was pulled out from the rubble at the site of the impact.

As of 14:50, the Office of the Prosecutor General's Telegram reported that the number of deaths had increased to 11 and the number of injured to 37. The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The National Police added that the attack damaged at least four private houses, a shopping center, a post office, shops, a car wash, and cars.

At the same time, at 15:09 Filashkin reported 10 dead and 33 wounded.

"The missile hit the Eco-Market in the city center, and people in neighboring shops and trade pavilions were also injured. Probably, there are still people under the rubble – the rescue operation is ongoing," wrote the head of the RMA.

As of 15:11, the State Emergency Service reported that the number of wounded had increased to 44, but at 16:02, the head of the RMA Filashkin clarified that the number of wounded was 37.

In addition, he said that the occupiers had fired another round of Smerchs at the private sector in Kostiantynivka, wounding two civilians.

Six private houses and a gas pipeline were damaged.

There were about 50 people in the shopping center in Kostiantynivka at the time of the attack, Vadym Filashkin told the telethon.

"It's the center of the town and, in addition to the supermarket, several other nearby shops were hit... A large number of people were injured. All the necessary services are working on the ground... Only now we managed to extinguish the fire, the air raid was constantly sounding and the enemy tried to launch guided bombs and ballistic missiles at our people who were putting out the fire and helping the wounded," he said.

As of 17:01, the death toll in Kostiantynivka has risen to 12. 44 wounded people are also known, and the necessary services continue to work at the scene, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported.
