Russians attacked Kyiv

On the morning of January 18, powerful explosions occurred in Kyiv. At that time, a large-scale alert was issued in Ukraine due to the threat of ballistic missiles, and air defense was deployed in the capital.

This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko. There were also reports of at least three people killed in the attack (the KIAA's information about four people being killed was not confirmed), and there were also injuries.

"It's loud in the capital again. Air defense is working. There is a threat of ballistics. Stay in shelters!" Klнchko wrote at about 6 a.m.

At 06:04, Klнchko reported on the first consequences of the attack.

"Fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Non-residential building. All units are heading to the scene," he said.

According to Klychko, in the same area, windows were smashed in houses and there is smoke in the entrance of a residential high-rise building.

"The glass elements of the entrance to Lukyanivska metro station were also damaged. It is currently closed for entry and exit. Trains are running without stopping at the station," the mayor added.

The Lukyanivska station was reopened around 12:30.

"After the damage caused by the enemy shelling, the station is receiving passengers again. The entrance and exit are open in the direction of the Kvadrat shopping center. The exit in the direction of Yurii Illienko Street is temporarily closed. Metro workers quickly cleaned the ticket office after the damage, including the remains of glass and other building materials," the KSCA said in a statement.

A water supply pipeline was also damaged in Shevchenkivskyi district.

"Repair crews are on their way," Klychko added.

At 06:18, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported that one person was killed.

"According to the operational data, one person was killed in the Shevchenkivskyi district as a result of an enemy attack," he said.

A few minutes later, Tkachenko reported an increase in the number of victims.

"The number of dead in Shevchenkivskyi district has increased to three," said the head of the KMIA.

As of 07:05, the number of victims of the strike increased again.

"Unfortunately, we already have four dead in Shevchenkivskyi district and three injured," said Tkachenko.

At the same time, the National Police confirmed the death of three people as of 09:40.

"In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a residential building, an administrative building, a business center, a shop, and citizens' cars were damaged as a result of hostile shelling. Three people are known to be dead – two men and a woman. Police officers, together with employees of the State Emergency Service and other services, continue to work on the ground, recording and documenting the consequences of another military terror," the statement said.

The State Emergency Service of Kyiv also confirmed the information about three dead. The same number of confirmed casualties was announced by Klitschko.

"We have confirmed the information about three dead as a result of the enemy's attack on the capital," he wrote at 11:30 a.m.

Around noon, the head of the Kyiv MVA, Tkachenko, also wrote that the information about the fourth victim had not been confirmed.

"This morning in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, three people were killed in a Russian attack – two men aged 43 and 25, and a 41-year-old woman. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Fortunately, the information about the fourth victim has not been confirmed. Three more victims received medical care on the spot, but refused to be hospitalized," the official wrote.

Tkachenko also wrote that as a result of the strike, in addition to the Lukyanivska metro station, an industrial building was partially destroyed with a subsequent fire on the 3rd floor, a catering establishment, a business center, a shopping center, a store, and 10 cars. He noted that the water supply should be restored within a day.

Debris was also reported falling in the Desnianskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, the latter, according to preliminary reports, without ignition.

Before the missiles hit Kyiv (according to the Mykolaiv Vanek Telegram channel, they were flying from the northeast), air defense forces in the capital and suburbs were repelling the attack by attack drones.

After the explosions, according to Suspilne TV, the water supply disappeared in some parts of Kyiv.

The news is being updated

As a reminder, almost simultaneously with Kyiv, the enemy attacked Zaporizhzhia. An infrastructure facility was hit in the regional center. Local authorities reported injuries.
