Russia may use the blockade of buses on the border with Ukraine to its advantage

Blocking transport – in particular, buses with passengers – at the Polish border will have severe social and political consequences for both countries. Moreover, it is a direct threat to the security of the defending country.

This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development. They noted that such actions negatively affect the confrontation with the "common enemy called Russia."

"Such actions and examples of inhumane treatment of Ukrainians at the EU border can be used by Russian special services to foment an artificial conflict between our countries. Women and children who have sought refuge from the war and are returning home for various reasons cannot be held hostage to business interests," the statement said.

It is emphasized that currently 6 checkpoints are blocked on the Polish side of the border. The most critical situation is at the Yagodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint, where "the movement of freight transport has stopped altogether."

"Humanitarian and perishable goods and fuel are not allowed through there. This has a direct impact on our defense capabilities. Also, empty trucks traveling for critical goods cannot leave Ukraine through this checkpoint. They are forced to wait in a 15-kilometer-long queue for empty trucks at the Nyzhankovychi - Malchovice checkpoint, where registration in the eCheckpoint has been temporarily suspended. Thus, drivers are literally living on the road without normal conditions," the ministry said.

The Poles are accusing Ukraine without any grounds

For his part, Minister of Agrarian Policy Mykola Solskyi previously emphasized that Polish farmers greatly exaggerate the role of our country in their problems. He explained that over the past year :

  • Ukraine exported $1.6-1.7 billion worth of products to Poland;
  • however, it imported from Poland products worth almost 1.1-1.2 billion dollars.

At the same time, Solskyi emphasized, "none of the Ukrainians have heard that it is necessary to ban anything from Poland." "We have always tried and are trying to negotiate. I am absolutely sure that this degree of emotion needs to be reduced and that the Ukrainian theme should definitely not be used [by the Poles to their advantage]. ...The protest in Poland, unlike all other countries, has an exaggerated focus on Ukraine," the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy stated.

At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine still exports most of its grain via the sea corridor. Therefore, the Poles are just blowing the issue out of proportion.

"In recent months, we have been trying to convey this to our Polish friends. We say: "Even if you lift the ban on grain, it will not go there from Ukraine, because the price in the port of Odesa is already more competitive than at the border with you, so keep in mind that in this discussion we are fighting against some phantoms," Solskyi summarized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Polish farmers blocking the border have no objective reasons to expand the protest. Therefore, the solution to the problems should be constructive and negotiated. Otherwise, only Russia will win, and the protesting farmers will also be among the losers.
