Russia is unable to provide its troops with drones and electronic warfare systems and faces harsh criticism - ISW

The Russian command faced criticism for failing to provide the occupiers with drones and electronic warfare

The Russian information space continues to criticize the command and authorities for misallocating priorities on the battlefield. Bloggers complain about their inability to properly equip the Russian Armed Forces with drones and electronic warfare systems.

This began in response to a recent unsuccessful mechanized attack near Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces defeated an occupation column. In recent days, the situation has been gaining momentum, and the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has once again written about it.

For example, on February 4, pro-war Russian bloggers claimed that Russia's drone industry is poorly managed, and this limits its ability to innovate. One propagandist argued that poor management causes unjustified losses for the Russian army and will be the "scourge" of its "victory over Ukraine."

Moscow Duma deputy Andrey Medvedev has previously criticized the mass production of drones in Russia. He believes that this will lead to an accumulation of UAVs that lack the technological adaptations necessary to compete with Ukrainian drones on the battlefield.

Another Russian blogger reacted to the January 30 footage of Ukrainian drones striking Russian armored vehicles and tanks near Novomykhailivka, saying that it was "negligent" of the Russian command to allow the convoy to go into battle without proper electronic warfare equipment.

He said that Russian troops should "abandon" the idea of a deep mechanized breakthrough until they are adequately equipped with electronic warfare systems, and in the meantime, small infantry-led and drone-supported attacks should be conducted.

"Russian bloggers have recently focused on this event as evidence of the Russian military's struggle to innovate and get out of the current positional war in Ukraine," ISW said.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the spectacular defeat of a Russian convoy by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Novomykhailivka pointed to broader problems of the Russian Armed Forces. They are related to the occupiers' ability to adapt to maneuverability at the front.
