Russia has been put in its place: Ukraine has sharply increased maritime exports after the collapse of the Black Sea deal
Following Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative last summer, Ukraine sent 1,300 vessels via a temporary sea route. This exceeds the volume of exports for the entire year of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
According to Ukrinform, this was stated by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, speaking at the roundtable "Political Dialogue - Overcoming Global Food Insecurity and the Risk of Hunger: Strengthening Collective Impact" organized by the UN Economic and Social Council. According to Kyslytsia, Ukrainian agricultural products are shipped to 40 countries via an alternative sea corridor.
"This exceeds the volume of exports for the entire year of the Black Sea Grain Initiative," the Permanent Representative noted. In total, 25 million tons of Ukrainian farmers' products were exported from the ports of Pivdenny, Odesa and Chornomorsk, he added, explaining that exports from these ports have reached pre-war levels. "We are consistently working to increase the capacity of all corridors," Kyslytsia emphasized.
He reminded that about 400 million people in the world depend on Ukrainian food exports. "Even in these difficult times, we are ready to defend our role as a guarantor of global food security," the diplomat said. "The humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine is a worthy illustration of this."
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russia has chosen Odesa as one of the main targets for missile and drone strikes to try to disrupt the functioning of the sea corridor. This is the corridor created by Ukraine after Moscow withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
