The aggressor country Russia has recognized that Ukraine shot down its A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft in February this year. The invaders arrested Mykola Dzyaman, commander of the 138th Air Defense Missile Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Force, in absentia - they announced that he allegedly gave the order to shoot down the plane on February 23, but did not specify which plane it was.

This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. They said that a court in Moscow had granted their request.

"The Khamovnitsky District Court of Moscow granted the request of the investigator of the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to impose a preventive measure in absentia in the form of detention on the commander of the 138th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade (military unit A4608) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Mykola Dzyaman," the statement said.

It is stated that the A-50 was patrolling Russian airspace on February 23, and Dzyaman, "realizing that the said aircraft was not intended for combat operations, was not armed, and was flying exclusively in the airspace of the Russian Federation," ordered its destruction. The Investigative Committee did not mention that this plane was used during massive attacks on Ukraine.

At the same time, they admitted that the downing of the plane led to its destruction and the deaths of 10 crew members.

"Dzyaman was charged in absentia with committing a crime under paragraph "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (terrorist act that caused death to a person), he is put on the federal wanted list," the Russian Federation reported.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- On February 23 this year, a Russian A-50U long-range radar detection and control aircraft was shot down near the Sea of Azov. The downed aircraft crashed in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation. It was a joint operation of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Air Force.

- Before the start of the full-scale war, the enemy had only nine such aircraft: three A-50s and six A-50Us. They play the role of correctors during massive shelling of Ukraine and cost at least $330 million.
