Russia continues to flood: Novokuznetsk has become a "sister city" of Venice. Video
On August 5, Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region of Russia) was hit by a heavy rainstorm. As a result, the city was heavily flooded, with cars up to halfway submerged in water on some streets.
Dozens of photos and videos of rivers in the middle of Novokuznetsk were posted on social media by local residents. Not only vehicles but also pedestrians were trapped.
In addition, water also got into the City Mall on Kirova Street, and large puddles formed on the floor.
"Novokuznetsk has become a sister city to Venice. Only for one day," wrote one of the aggressor country's popular propaganda Telegram channels.
Local media also acknowledged that the city was frozen in a mega traffic jam. Traffic police blocked traffic in some areas while special services worked there.
The press service of the city administration promised to fix the problem. A disaster relief headquarters was set up.
"To eliminate water from the roadway, we are working hard to clean the covers of rainwater wells that are clogged with leaves and debris and to pump out water," local authorities said.
