Russians complained about the attack on the Murmansk region, where the Olenya long-range aviation airport is located

Russia has reported a drone attack on the Murmansk region, where the "Olenya" military airfield is located. In connection with the threat, the "Carpet" plan was introduced at two airports in the region in the cities of Murmansk and Apatity.

This was reported by Russian Telegram channels. It is noted that three unidentified drones were spotted near Severomorsk, after which flights were restricted throughout the Kola Peninsula.

Severomorsk is the main base of the Russian Northern Fleet, and the "Olenya" airfield is also located in the region. An air alert was declared in Murmansk.

The governor of the region, Andrey Chibis, also confirmed the information about the drone attack.

"All necessary measures to improve security are being taken. Air defense is working to destroy enemy drones," Chibis said.

He later said that all three drones had allegedly been shot down.

What is known about the "Olenya" airfield?

The "Olenya" airfield, located on the Kola Peninsula, 92 kilometers south of Murmansk, near Olenegorsk, is a long-range aviation base. Strategic bombers are stationed at this airbase.

This Russian airfield is located about 1,788 kilometers from Ukraine's northern border. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has used aircraft from this airfield to launch X-101/X-555 cruise missiles and "Kinzhals" at Ukraine.

It should be noted that on July 27, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine conducted a successful drone strike on the airfield, hitting a TU-22M3 bomber. On July 30, 2024, it became known that two strategic bombers were damaged during the attack, and their recovery would take a long time.

As a reminder, in Russia, due to the drone attack that began on the night of September 10, Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports in Moscow, as well as Zhukovsky airport in the Moscow region, were temporarily shut down. They did not accept airplanes and did not send flights according to the schedule.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that on the night of September 10, drones attacked several regions in Russia. Explosions and air defense were recorded in Bryansk, Lipetsk, Tula, Kaluga, and Moscow regions. In the latter, the town of Ramenskoye was damaged, with Russian media reporting that two high-rise buildings were hit and a "9-year-old boy" who later turned into a "46-year-old woman" was killed.
