Romantic meeting of Moon and Venus: users share photos of a "cosmic date" from around the world
On December 4-5, many had the opportunity to watch a romantic rendezvous between Venus and the moon. Eyewitnesses from around the world shared photos of this cosmic encounter on Facebook and X.
In fact, Venus is located much further away from our planet's satellite. However, when they met in the night sky, they created a striking space duo.
"If you face south-southwest about 45 minutes after sunset during mid-twilight you'll see a beautiful crescent moon. And floating about 3 degrees above it will be the dazzling Evening Star: the planet Venus," Space.com described the sighting.
The moon was positioned lower, about halfway between Venus and the horizon, and looked like a particularly thin crescent with only 13% of its surface illuminated, astrologers said.
However, scientists explain that this meeting is actually an illusion created by the geometry of the position of Venus and the moon from the Earth's vantage point. After all, the crescent moon with 13% illumination is at a distance of 393,000 km from the Earth, and the brilliant Venus is 360 times further away - at a distance of 142 million km from us.
However, their brilliance and alignment with the Earth created an unforgettable spectacle that capticated eyewitnesses from all over the world.
"This is incredible! What a reunion! They got back together on a date," they shared their impressions on Facebook.
