Record transfer: Ukrainian national team player joins Champions League club

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Yaremchuk leaves Benfica

Ukrainian national team striker Roman Yaremchuk will leave Lisbon's Benfica and return to Belgium, where he played from 2017 to 2021 with Gent. The 26-year-old's new club will be Brugge, which will play in the group stage of the Champions League.

According to the Belgian publication HNL, both clubs have already agreed on the transfer. The Brugge club will pay 16 million euros for the Ukrainian, which will make Yaremchuk the most expensive purchase in the history of the Black and Blues. Benfica can receive another three million as bonuses. In addition, the Lisbon team will receive 10% of the player's future resale.

The Portuguese club decided to refuse Roman's services after failing to sell Gonçalo Ramos. "Brugge will play German Bayer Leverkusen, Spanish Atletico Madrid and Portuguese Porto in the Champions League group stage.

Yaremchuk spent only one season at Benfica. He joined the Portuguese giants last summer for 17 million euros. As a member of the Eagles, the Ukrainian played 47 matches in all competitions, scoring nine goals.

As reported by OBOZREVTEL, Dynamo Kyiv and Ukraine national team defender Ilya Zabarnyi may become a player of an English club. The head coach of the White and Blues, Mircea Lucescu, commented on this news in an original way.
