Rare Dnipro landscapes from the early 20th century

Archival images give us a glimpse into the past and show us what Kyiv was like, particularly before the start of the two world wars. For example, the capital even had its drawbridge on the Dnipro River.

The unique photos were published in the community "Thirst: Kyiv is interesting" on Facebook. You can see how our city looked about 120 years ago.

"Rare Dnipro landscapes of the early twentieth century. By the way, there was a drawbridge in Kyiv - the Mykolaiv Chain Bridge had a swing section until 1900. You can see it in the first pictures," the post says.

As a reminder, Kyiv's St. Andrew's Descent has been known since the days of Kievan Rus. However, the construction of this city street began in 1861-1862. In the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, in one of the courtyards, there is a seemingly ordinary hill. However, old-timers say that there used to be an ancient cemetery here, and after its destruction, this neighborhood was named "On the Coffins," and many accidents occured nearby.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, among the restaurants in Kyiv that were known not only in our country but also far beyond its borders, there was one named after the Silver Land of Ukraine - Transcarpathia. Here, visitors sat in wine barrels and enjoyed Ukrainian and European dishes.
