At noon on January 3, there were no queues of vehicles at most checkpoints on the Ukrainian border. Where they do exist, the crowds are considerable – up to 80 cars (in particular, on the border with Poland). At the same time, at many checkpoints, only vehicles are allowed to cross, and pedestrians are not allowed to cross. Most of these checkpoints are on the border with Poland.

This was reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. They noted that as of 12:00, the accumulation of cars was recorded at the checkpoints:

  • "Ustyluh" (border with Poland) – 50 cars;
  • "Krakivets" (border with Poland) – 80 cars and 6 buses;
  • "Shehyni" (border with Poland) – 20 cars;
  • "Malyi Bereznyi" (border with Slovakia) – 10 cars;
  • "Uzhhorod" (border with Slovakia) – 13 cars;
  • "Tysa" (border with Hungary) – 17 cars, 2 buses;
  • "Kosyno" (border with Hungary) – 10 cars;
  • "Luzhanka" (border with Hungary) – 15 cars.

Pedestrians are not allowed to cross the border

At the same time, it is noted that many checkpoints do not allow pedestrians to cross the border. For example, on the border with Poland, these are the checkpoints:

  • "Yahodyn" (also temporarily not allowing passenger cars);
  • "Ustyluh";
  • "Uhryniv";
  • "Rava-Ruska";
  • "Hrushiv";
  • "Krakivets";
  • "Smilnytsia."

On the border with Slovakia – "Uzhhorod."

On the border with Hungary – Tysa.

On the border with Romania – "Diakove."

In general, pedestrians may not be allowed to cross the border for various reasons. In particular:

  • For security reasons;
  • due to repairs, etc.

Ukraine and Romania will be connected by another border crossing

Earlier, the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, said that Ukraine and Romania would be connected by another crossing, a 261-meter highway border bridge across the Tisza River.

The bridge will be built between the Zakarpattia village of Bila Tserkva and the Romanian city of Sighetu Marmatiei. A checkpoint is also planned to be built there.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in January 2025. After that, the facility will be put into operation. The total cost of the project is 168.7 million lei (over UAH 383 million).
