Prague in miniature: the ideal place for tourists in Europe with fascinating architecture and few crowds is named

Český Krumlov is a non-touristy but incredibly beautiful pearl of the Czech Republic

There is a small town of Český Krumlov, which has colorful historic buildings and is just as good as the popular spots, just a two-hour drive from the Czech capital, Prague, to the south. The large crowds of tourists are often the most important factor why travelers choose quieter locales over those where they have to cram into a crowd to see a cultural attraction.

It is often called 'Prague in miniature' because of its rich history and architecture. The city covers only 22.16 square kilometers, which is 22.4 times smaller than the capital. According to Metro, in 1992, the settlement was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and called "an outstanding example of a small medieval city in central Europe."

It's interesting that the old town of Český Krumlov has remained untouched for more than a century as it miraculously evaded bombing during World War II.

Although the city is considered non-touristy, it is visited by about 800 thousand people a year. Most travelers come here during the warm seasons: from April to October.

Among the most popular pastimes, which are also common among locals, are picnics on the banks of the Vltava River and canoeing. Walking through the narrow streets of the old stone town is a major pastime for travelers.

To avoid the crowds as much as possible, it is best to visit Český Krumlov in winter. Although you won't be able to have picnics on the green lawn, you still have a chance to visit the Christmas market on the main square and the snow-covered Krumlov Castle.

The main attractions in the city, besides the castle, are its museum, tower and garden. In particular, you can visit the Egon Schiele Art Centrum. Several streets in Český Krumlov can make you plunge into a fairy tale thanks to pastel three- and two-story houses.

The city can be reached from the capital by car. It will take from 2 to 3 hours to get there. The fastest option is to travel from the Austrian airport in Linz, which will take 1 hour and 30 minutes.
