Polish farmers to strike on the border with Lithuania

Polish farmers have announced their intention to organize a blockade on the border with Lithuania. Starting March 1, they plan to block the checkpoint between the Lithuanian city of Kalvaria and the Polish city of Budzisko.

This was reported by LRT. According to Karolis Pečinskins, a co-organizer of the protest on the Lithuanian border, they will stop trucks and check them for Ukrainian agricultural products.

The protest is scheduled to begin on March 1 at 10 am. All vehicles that can transport Ukrainian grain or other agricultural products will be stopped. The co-organizer assures that it will not be a complete blockade of the checkpoint.

"Of course, this does not apply to personal vehicles, fuel tanks, vehicles for the transportation of metal or livestock. If we see grain and other agricultural products coming, we would like to know where they are coming from, why and how, to get a sense of the volume of transportation," Pečinskins said.

According to him, he understands that such inspections will create inconvenience for carriers, but asks "to be understanding of the difficult situation that the farmers of his country are in." Polak says that the main problem is suspicions that some of the Ukrainian grain that is supposed to transit through Poland actually remains in the country.

"We just want to prove and draw attention to what is happening, because we believe that our interests are being violated, and we are not getting support from anyone. The question of blocking the Lithuanian border arose when we were thinking about how to increase pressure on the Polish government," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Lithuanian farmers no longer plan to join the Polish protest on the country's border starting March 1. Lithuanian farmers do not intend to interfere with the supply of grain from Ukraine, and food from Russia is a much bigger problem for them.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- Polish protesters have been blockading border crossings with Germany since February 25. The farmers are against the supply of grain from Ukraine to Germany because Ukrainian products are replacing Polish ones.

- Meanwhile, Polish carriers have announced that they will resume their strike at the Ukrainian border on March 1. Drivers and representatives of logistics companies will join the blockade already organized by Polish farmers.
