Poisonous sea creatures with painful stings flood popular Thai beach: what tourists should know
One of the most popular resorts in Thailand risks losing a large number of tourists as many poisonous marine creatures have appeared near the beach in Pattaya. According to local authorities, the coast has been flooded with Aurelia aurita, also called moon jelly.
According to The Star, most of the animals were recorded near Dongtan Beach. Despite the fact that the venom of moon jellyfish does not threaten human life, rescuers urge travelers to be especially careful about contact with them.
Wallop Boonchu, a marine disaster prevention official, explained that the toxic substance contained in the cells of the aurita is not fatal, but causes severe skin irritation. Because of this, rescuers have been deployed along Pattaya Beach to warn tourists about the potential danger.
Experts note that the increase in the number of marine creatures near local beaches is a common phenomenon that occurs at the end of each rainy season. They recommend washing the area where you were stung with vinegar.
What is known about moon jelly
Aurelia aurita is one of the most common stinging jellyfish species in the world, with an average size of 25 to 40 centimeters in diameter. The creatures live in the temperate zones of the Atlantic Ocean and its seas. Moon jellyfish can also be found in the waters of Ukraine.
The appearance of the Aurelia aurita is not much different from other representatives of the species. The main part of the animal's body is transparent, and there are four violet-blue circles in the center. The creatures feed on small plankton and sometimes smaller jellyfish.
The effect of the venom contained in the cells of the aurita is similar to a nettle burn. If a person is stung by a moon jellyfish, they will feel a burning pain for about half an hour, and a rash will appear on the skin.
