Pirates of the Caribbean never dreamed of: which islands are better to cross off the list to visit
Who among us hasn't dreamed of flying to the Caribbean? Probably, there are no such people. And if they do, they are very few. The sun, warm sand, and clear sea water attract tourists from all over the world. Americans, Europeans, and, of course, Ukrainians love to vacation in this area. People come here at any time of the year, and autumn is no exception. On the contrary, it is considered the best time to travel.
If you are planning to go to one of the Caribbean locations in October or November, you have made the right decision. But be careful, there are areas in this region that should be avoided. We will talk about them further.
Safe or dangerous resort: the main factors
To understand which area is not a threat and which is better to avoid, you need to focus on the main indicators of security. A country is considered reliable when the following signs are absent or minimized.
- Crime rate. This includes theft, kidnapping, robbery, assault, etc.
- Political stability. It is influenced by the level of the economy, foreign and domestic diplomacy, and social crises.
- Healthcare system and access to medical services. Some countries have low levels of education, which leads to unreliable services.
- Terrain. Other lands have completely different flora and fauna than ours. Unfamiliar insects, snakes, birds, and animals can threaten our lives, so we should avoid uncharted territories.
- Natural disasters. Of course, no one is safe here, and every resort can have a disaster, but there are areas where they happen very often.
Based on these factors, we have made a selection of places where you can relax in the Caribbean and where you should not go at all. Let's start with the latter.
Dangerous islands in the Caribbean
This list includes territories where instability and devastation reign, and the level of kindness and empathy among local residents is somewhere around zero.
- Haiti
One of the poorest and most problematic countries in the world opens our list. Although the name sounds nice, and at first glance, it may seem that going there is like visiting paradise. In reality, it is not. Don't think so. The state is mired in corruption, with violence and human rights violations at every turn. Travelers are definitely not allowed to go there, as the region has been assigned the 4th level of danger.
- Jamaica
Another place we've heard about in many songs. But it's only wonderful in the lyrics. Banditry and social inequality are rampant here. Although the island is a little better than Haiti in terms of threat level - it has the 3rd degree - you still don't need to plan your route here.
- Puerto Rico
A slightly better region than the previous two. If you go here, you need to be very careful. The danger index is rated as 2 - tourists should exercise extreme caution. The locals are a bit more loyal in this region, but they are not averse to stealing your property, precious jewelry, and cash. Are you traveling here? Then at least don't go to the San Husan neighborhood.
- Trinidad and Tobago
The name alone is frightening. The country has a very high crime rate, with kidnappings and murders all the time. Don't take any risks! There are other ways to get an adrenaline rush.
Safe islands in the Caribbean
No longer want to go to the Caribbean? Do not rush to conclusions! This place has a lot of territories that you can safely go to.
- Dominican Republic
This part of the globe is famous for its incredibly beautiful waterfalls, rainforests, and thermal springs. The region has a stable democracy, low crime rate, and minimal risk of hurricanes - what else do you need for a great vacation?
If you decide to fly to the Dominican Republic, be sure to visit the country's sights. Visit Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plato, and La Vega. There are many historical architectural monuments that were built by the Spanish conquerors in the past.
- Barbados
The most developed country in the Caribbean. It has a strong economy and a high-quality healthcare system, and most importantly, natural disasters are surprisingly rare. In addition to clean beaches, there are many other interesting things to do on land. We recommend wandering the streets of the capital Bridgetown, which means "bridge city", and also going to the oldest settlement - Tairop Kat. It is here that you will be able to touch the culture and customs of the Indians, see how they once lived and how they exist now.
You can also book a walk through the Botanical Garden in Barbados to admire rare plants and flowers. It is worth going here, and the sooner the better.
- Cayman Islands
A rich territory belonging to the Kingdom of Great Britain. Here you can go diving to see extraordinary beautiful coral reefs or ships that once sank during storms and bad weather.
By the way, this destination is very popular among Americans and Canadians, but our tour operators are reluctant to include the Caymans in their tours. There is only one explanation: underdeveloped infrastructure. But the clean beaches are worthy of attention. So, if you have the opportunity, feel free to go here.
- St. Barts
This land belongs to the French and is considered a favorite of world stars. That is why it is also called the island of millionaires. It is truly a pearl of the Caribbean. It is difficult to get there because there are no direct flights and cruise ships do not stop here. But if you really want to, you can visit the "land of the rich". There are many travel agencies that can help solve this issue.
- Anguilla
The last location located in the "green zone" of the Caribbean. It is the territory of the British, famous for its luxurious resorts, especially the aquamarine color of the water. It is comfortable and safe here. A good vacation is guaranteed.
Well, now you know where to organize your vacation and where not to. Plan your vacation, make your itinerary in advance, and go on one of your best trips ever. Enjoy your trip!
