Picturesque villages of the Carpathians: where to vacation in August
"Where there are mountains and meadows,
Where there are rapid streams-rivers,
Where the spruces abound," Mykola Mozhovyi once sang. We will tell you about such places are below.
Sheshory
The Hutsul settlement is located in the Kosiv district of Ivano-Frankivsk region, at an altitude of over 600 meters.
Most of all, tourists are attracted to the waterfalls, the most famous of which are the Big and Small Huky. The former is located in the center of the village, the latter is 250 meters downstream. By the way, there is a mineral spring nearby where you can get drinking water.
Mountains rise around the village, which will be appreciated by hikers. If you are not physically fit, we advise you to choose Mlaky, Radul, and Pasichanka. For those who like to climb higher peaks, we recommend the Brusnyi, Kormytura, and Rosokhata ranges.
Interestingly, the song "Hutsulka Ksenia" originated from here. It was written by an ordinary student for the daughter of a forester. By the way, artistic weaving used to flourish here. The local huts, which are still decorated with towels, tablecloths, and pillows, remind us of those times.
Be sure to visit the Lebedyn tract with the lake of the same name. There is a legend that the reservoir has no bottom, and mystical creatures live inside. It is also home to rare plants listed in the Red Book. Also, visit the Horishna Church, the oldest Hutsul church.
Pylypets
The village is located in Khust district of Zakarpattia region. One of its attractions is the Shypit waterfall. It is famous for its high cascades and powerful jet. It is also included in the list of natural wonders of Ukraine. There is a convenient path to the waterfall, so it is quick and easy to get to the location.
From here you can also plan a route to the Borzhava meadow. The mountain range is located between the Latorytsia and Rika streams. It has several main peaks. The highest is Stryi, 1692 meters high. The lowest is Plai. There is a weather station on its territory. Hymba is known for the Pylypets ski resort, and Velykyi Verkh is located in the heart of the ridge. By the way, most of the slopes are covered with blueberry bushes.
In summer, the village becomes a real paragliding center. The flight takes place with an instructor and lasts about 13-15 minutes. Keep in mind that it is not always possible to take off. It all depends on the weather conditions. If you can't get to the top, don't be upset. In this case, rent a bike and ride along specially laid tracks.
We recommend visiting local restaurants and tasting Carpathian cuisine: banosh and bohrach.
Kryvorivnia
The settlement is located in Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. It was here that the famous writer Ivan Franko used to vacation. For 12 years, he came here with his family every summer. In addition to the poet, the place was visited by Lesya Ukrainka, Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, Hnat Khotkevych and others.
We recommend visiting the Hutsulshchyna Museum. It was built in 1995 as a typical Hutsul house. It looks like a small fortress that protected the owners from wild animals. There are many household items in the house, but the most noteworthy are the wooden children's walkers that were used to teach kids to walk.
In the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Memorial Museum, you can explore how the famous literary critic rested and worked. We also recommend going to the Grandfather's Pharmacy. Here, travelers will learn how our ancestors used to treat themselves and taste unique tinctures made from herbs, berries, and Chornohora roots.
Yablunytsia
The village is located in Nadvirna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. It is often visited by cycling enthusiasts. The most popular route is the Yablunytsia-Vydnokolo, which starts at the Vorokhta railway station. The route stretches for 29 kilometers and lasts 5 hours.
Be sure to visit the real Hutsul amusement park - Polonyna Pertsi. There is a legend that the first chili pepper in the area once grew here. It offers incredible views of Hoverla, Petros and Drahobrat. You can start the tour at the Carpathian smithy, then go to the cheese factory and taste budz and bryndza. Don't forget to visit the Molfar House. During the tour, tourists will learn about the life of a fortune teller and try to play the trembita.
By the way, the popular resort of Bukovel is just 13 kilometers away. Guests can relax in SPA-complexes, wellness treatments, swimming in the pools, zip-lining and other entertainment.
Verkhovyna
The village is located in Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. There are many routes for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.
We recommend visiting the House-museum Film Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. During the filming, the famous film director Serhiy Parajanov lived here for seven months. Also, visit the Cheese Factory Museum Khata-Staya. In the courtyard, there is a cauldron and barrels for preparing and storing the dairy product. In one of the rooms, you can try cooking local dishes. You can learn about the origin of the Hutsuls, their life and way of life at U Trembitaria museum.
