"Our national team corresponds to the country": legendary Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodžić spoke categorically about the upcoming Bosnia-Ukraine match

The legendary Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodžić criticized his country's national team, which will play with Ukraine in the playoffs for the 2024 European Championship next March. The 2014 FIFA World Cup participant admitted that he does not understand how the national team is determined, and the players themselves simply play a number on the field.

Halilhodžić said this in an interview with Sportske Novosti. The former coach of PSG, Ivory Coast, Japan, Algeria and Morocco set an example for his compatriots with the Croatian national team, whose players give 100% effort in every match.

"Our national team corresponds to our country. What are they even doing there? I once said that before assembling a national team, you should first ask the advice of a priest, a monk, and a pilgrim. Look at Croatia: it's an example of how much can be achieved through unity, love for the national team and the homeland," Halilhodžić said.

Earlier, he called the match against Ukraine a great chance for the Bosnians, who have never played in a European championship in their history. The semifinal of the Euro 2024 playoffs will take place on March 21. Bookmakers have already determined the winner of the match.

The Bosnian press accused Ukrainians of "dirty propaganda" aimed at their team, and former national team player Ognjen Vranjes suspected that his compatriots would not be allowed to attend the championship out of pity for Ukrainians.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the President of the European Football Union (UEFA), Alexander Čeferin, wished the Bosnians to reach the championship before the draw for the Euro 2024 playoffs.
