Occupants who shot Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyne identified – DIU
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has identified the occupants involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia in May this year. All of them are servicemen of the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces stationed in Shali, Chechnya.
The same invaders may be involved in other war crimes, including the murder of several other Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered in May. The details were disclosed in the DIU's Telegram channel.
Ukraine's military intelligence has identified the occupiers who shot four Ukrainian prisoners of war in the second half of May this year near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia. The execution was captured on video: when the Ukrainian soldiers surrendered unarmed and with their hands up, the Russians forced them to lie down and shot them at point-blank range.
Then the video, which captured a grave war crime, went viral.
Today, intelligence officers have identified the invaders involved in this crime. All of them were members of the assault group of the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment (military unit 71718) of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Army of the Southern District of the Russian Armed Forces. This unit is permanently stationed in Shali (Chechnya).
At the time of the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyn, the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Yuri Abayev, called "Buffalo," born on December 10, 1990.
In addition to him, according to the DIU, the occupiers from the ranks of the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Federation were also directly involved in the execution of captured Ukrainian soldiers:
- Captain Nagorny Dmitry Olegovich (рос. Нагорный Дмитрий Олегович), born on November 21, 1995, commander of the 2nd battalion;
- First Lieutenant Abutalimov Temirlan Umarovich (Russian: Абъуталимов Темирлан Умарович), born on May 02, 1997 – commander of the 1st assault company;
- Lieutenant Bekov Zaur Sergeevich (Russian: Беков Заур Сергеевич), born on 16 July 1997 – commander of the 3rd assault company;
- Senior Lieutenant Imagazaliyev Yusup Paisulayevich (Russian: Имагазиалиев Юсуп Пайзулаевич), born on 18 July 1999, commander of the 6th assault company.
"These Russian war criminals may also be involved in the murder of several more Ukrainian prisoners of war later in May 2024. This is evidenced, in particular, by the radio interception of a conversation between the occupiers and the 70th Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, during which one of the Russian assault company commanders ordered his subordinates to shoot Ukrainian soldiers. There will be just retribution for every war crime committed against Ukraine!" the DIU emphasized.
As a reminder, on June 18, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine spoke about another terrible crime of the Russian occupiers: they executed another Ukrainian prisoner of war, his head on the hood of a car in the Donetsk region was recorded by a drone.
Kostin said that the Ukrainian side has information that Russian commanders ordered the occupiers not to take Ukrainian soldiers prisoner but to execute them in such a barbaric way, so the recorded crime may not be the only one.
The very next day, on June 19, the Prosecutor General said that investigators had identified the soldier executed by the invaders, but had not yet named him publicly. The investigation also has information about the occupiers who brutally killed our soldier.
