Citroën C4 hatchback and C4 X sedan have received a long-awaited update. The French manufacturer has significantly improved the family line. The entry-level 1.2-liter 99 hp gasoline engine has been removed from the market, meaning that the C4 is no longer available with a manual transmission.

Its place is taken by a new 1.2-liter mild hybrid gasoline engine with an output of 99 hp, which is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission with a dual-clutch gearbox. Details about the new model were revealed by Autocar.

The hybrid is offered with 134 hp. A non-electrified 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 128 hp and an eight-speed automatic transmission is also still available.

There are two electric variants of the ë-C4:

  • with a 134 hp engine and 50 kWh battery for a range of 358 km
  • with a 154 hp engine and a 54 kWh battery pack for a range of 418 km

The C4's new look draws on the Oli concept introduced in 2022, with square light signatures and a new Citroën logo inspired by the 1919 original.

Speaking of the interior, Citroën has updated seats, making them with 15 mm dense foam, which is said to provide better postural support.

There is also a new 7-inch digital instrument screen and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with updated software.

Prices are expected to remain in line with the outgoing car, which starts at $25,000 for a hatchback and $24,000 for a sedan.

However, the ë-C4 is likely to come down from its current price of $45,000 as Citroën seeks to keep it competitive with newer (and cheaper) models on the market.

The new C4 was unveiled alongside the refreshed Ami and a new concept showing the next generation C5 Aircross, marking the next stage in Citroën's reimagining under Stellantis.
