Italy was among the pioneers of the automotive industry. Italian-made cars remain popular due to their powerful performance and elegant design. However, the fact that a car was made in Italy does not mean a guarantee of quality. Italian journalist and car enthusiast Alessandro Ferrari once said: "Although Italian cars are known for their style and passion, some models suffer from reliability and maintenance problems."

Experts have published a rating of cars originating from Italy that do not justify their price. They simply do not stand up to competition, as there are many better and more reliable options on the market.

Lancia Delta

John Lin, an experienced mechanic and owner of JB Motor Works, said that the Lancia Delta is a hatchback that was an attempt to revive the iconic Delta name but the attempt failed miserably.

"This hatchback may have its charms, but it's notorious for its electrical malfunctions and inadequate build quality," added Shawn Miller, automotive blogger at Modified Rides.

Poor build quality, underpowered engines, and low interior comfort are just the tip of the iceberg. Used models can be found for less than $10,000, but the savings are not worth the problems that may arise during operation.

Lancia Ypsilon

According to Joe Giranda, director of sales and marketing at CFR Classic, the Lancia Ypsilon is exclusive to the Italian automotive market, and while it may appeal to local consumers, its appeal is limited internationally.

The Lancia Ypsilon is not a practical pleasure. You will have to spend money on expensive (and rare) auto parts and other maintenance costs. The car offers minimal technological updates and moderate performance, which does not justify its price for most non-Italian consumers.

Fiat 500L

Despite its attractive position in the Fiat lineup, the 500L is a rather unreliable model. This compact MPV has an attractive appearance, but it suffers from operational problems. Drivers most often report a faulty transmission and poor build quality.

"The resale value tends to depreciate faster than its competitors, making it a less attractive investment in the long run," said Giranda.

Fiat Punto

The Fiat Punto was once a popular car, but when new and improved models entered the market, the Punto could not keep up.

The decline in sales was accelerated by unsatisfactory crash test results and a lack of improvements in safety features.

Alfa Romeo Giulia

According to Carl Rodrigeuz, founder and owner of NX Auto Transport, Alfa Romeo Giulia suffers from reliability problems.

"From electrical outages to mechanical malfunctions, owners have reported various issues that impair the overall ownership experience," Rodrigeuz explained.

In addition, the resale value of the Giulia tends to be lower compared to its competitors, further reducing its long-term appeal.

"The Alfa Romeo Giulia has been criticized for its cramped interior and high fuel costs, which do not match its premium price," added Giranda.

Maserati Ghibli

Many automotive experts believe that the Maserati Ghibli is a kind of paradox: it has the prestigious Maserati badge, but in some aspects, it does not meet the brand's luxury standards.

In Rodrigeuz's opinion, this Italian-made car does not meet the reliability and overall value. Owners reported frequent visits to the service center with various problems. High maintenance and depreciation costs also do not improve this model's place in the overall rating. Critics note that, despite the high price, interior materials and technologies do not meet the overall performance of the premium brand.

Lamborghini Espada

Ben Michael, director of the automotive department at Michael & Associates, emphasized that Lamborghinis have such a high luxury status that they are crossing the line of not only being expensive to buy but also expensive to maintain.

The Lamborghini Espada is a dubious pleasure: spare parts are scarce, maintenance is expensive, and the complex V12 engine requires constant attention. Lamborghinis also often require special fluids and tools that are very difficult to find.
