Not in the evening! At what time will the lunar eclipse be visible in Ukraine on September 18, 2024
Astrologers urge you not to miss two incredible astronomical phenomena. Tonight, on September 17, the Harvest Supermoon will rise in the sky, and in the pre-dawn hours of September 18, a partial lunar eclipse will take place.
These two fantastic events will be visible in Europe, North and South America (except Alaska), most of Africa, Western Asia, and parts of Antarctica. And of course, residents of Ukraine can join the skywatching.
Using the Time&Date resource, you can track the exact time of the eclipse of the Moon in a particular area.
In particular, in Ukraine, the eclipse will begin at 03:41 with the Moon's immersion in the Earth's penumbra (this event is invisible visually). At 05:13, our satellite will begin to sink into the Earth's shadow – at this point, the darkening of the southern lunar limb will be clearly visible.
But the maximum shadow phase of the eclipse will occur at 05:44 Kyiv time. And at 06:16 the Moon will completely emerge from the Earth's shadow, and at 07:47 from the penumbra.
However, astrologers emphasize that the partial lunar eclipse will be visible only if the sky is clear. But to see this double astronomical miracle in its full glory, you can turn on a free online broadcast that will take place on YouTube thanks to The Virtual Telescope Project.
The September full moon is the second of four consecutive supermoons in 2024. According to scientists, the term "supermoon" describes the full Moon that is closest to the Earth in its slightly elliptical orbit. At this time, the full moon may appear slightly larger and brighter in the sky.
However, the brightness of the Harvest Supermoon will be eclipsed by a partial eclipse. Scientists emphasize that 8.7% of the upper part of the moon will be immersed in the darkest part of the Earth's shadow.
Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on our natural satellite.
