New fines are being prepared for Ukrainian drivers: what they want to punish for

A new fine may be introduced in Ukraine for exceeding the permissible noise level by vehicles, which is a particular offense for motorcyclists. The fine is expected to be set at UAH 17,000. For a repeated violation, the fine will be UAH 34,000.

The corresponding draft law No. 9564 has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. The document was included in the parliament's agenda in early February. Accordingly, MPs may consider it soon.

As stated in the explanatory note to the document, the need to introduce a fine is because some drivers install equipment on their vehicles, the use of which leads to a significant increase in engine noise. Which:

• violates the "peace of citizens";
• causes public discontent.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that "during martial law, such noise sounds are similar to the sounds of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles." This creates the perception of an air and missile threat, "distracting the Armed Forces and law enforcement."

What will be the fines for vehicles exceeding the permissible noise level

According to the draft law, fines and deprivation of a driver's license are planned to be imposed for violation of noise regulations. In particular:

• for the first violation, a fine of UAH 17,000 is envisaged;
• a fine of UAH 34,000 and deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 3 to 6 months for the second offense.

However, the right to drive may not be taken away. In particular, the draft law states that repeated violations will only be punishable by a fine.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, at the same time, the fine for listening to Russian music in public places may increase from UAH 5,100 to UAH 25,500. The relevant draft law provides for increased liability for violations to strengthen national security and reduce the influence of the aggressor state on Ukrainians.
