New Avengers: DC will have a movie about a superhero team like Marvel's
The competition between the Marvel and DC superhero universes will soon intensify. At least, this is evidenced by a six-year development plan presented by DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran.
As Kotaku writes, they have planned to create a team of people with superpowers, like the Avengers, who brought Marvel a huge success, as part of the movie franchise reboot. The reboot process will begin at the end of this year with the release of the Superman movie that Gunn is currently working on.
In 2023, Gunn and Safran took control of all DC movies, TV series, cartoons, and video games. Their task was to put all the projects in order after Zack Snyder's somewhat chaotic approach. In addition, this tandem should give creators more freedom to create a variety of projects in different genres under the DC Universe umbrella. Both Gunn and Safran have already told reporters that they intend to create a lot of content that will feel interconnected, but in which the films will still remain separate and autonomous.
In addition, at a recent DC Studios press event, Gunn explained that he wanted to create a simple and straightforward space with an easy entry for any viewer. Even the absolute beginner should feel at ease when starting to watch any of the films, and not feel the need to rewatch a bunch of older movies to understand what the screen is about. "We remain confident that each of these projects works as a standalone project," Gunn said.
The six-year cycle envisioned by Gunn and Safran will end with the release of a large-scale crossover in the style of Avengers: Endgame". However, neither of them shared any details about the upcoming film. It should not be expected in theaters before 2030.
To reach a point where such a project would be viable in the new DC Universe, Gunn and Safran laid out a plan that would require the production of a significant amount of content. According to the DC Studio bosses, the company will release two feature films, two feature series, and two animated projects every year. Some of them will be released exclusively on WB Discovery's Max streaming service. However, if necessary, the studio bosses are ready to change their plans.
It should be noted that until now, the key superhero team in the DC universe was the Justice League, which included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. Zack Snyder's attempts to create competition for the Avengers were unsuccessful.
