Netflix viewers have named one of the worst movies ever made: it's "mediocre" and has a "boring plot"

Netflix is streaming a movie that has been called one of the worst films of all time

The latest film by director Tyler Perry, released on February 23, 2024, Mea Culpa, received a lot of hate from Netflix viewers on social media, and film critics rated it very low for its predictable plot, stereotypical dialogues, and poorly chosen actors who were supposed to "pull off" the film. They were not even afraid to call it one of the "worst movies ever made."

The main characters included Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland and actor Trevante Rhodes, who won several awards for his role as Sharon in the Oscar-winning film Moonlight. Mea Culpa had high hopes that were not realized. At the time of writing, the film has received only 14% of positive reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website, meaning that its rating is only 2.6/5 stars.

In Mea Culpa, director Tyler Perry tells the story of an ambitious criminal defense lawyer, Mea Harper, who takes on the case of artist Zyair Malloy, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend. However, an ordinary working relationship turns into a passionate love affair, with erotic shots which can be seen in some fragments of the movie.

Although the film was called a thriller, which means it was supposed to capture the audience's attention, the comments on Rotten Tomatoes classified it as boring and threw tomatoes at it. Some people even tried to look at the film from the perspective of a comedy in order not to completely lose faith in the director's creativity.

"The only way I could sit through this movie was to look at it as a comedy because it can't be serious. The movie is a mess on all fronts, but at least it made me laugh a little unintentionally," "Mea Culpa is just too stupid for this world," "The text looks like a first draft that was rushed to the screen," dissatisfied viewers said.

The movie has also been called "mediocre" with a "boring plot" that is "implausible". On IMDb, one of the most popular services among film critics, Mea Culpa has a rating of only 4.2 stars out of 10.

"As the plot description might suggest, it's hopelessly overwrought, with Perry's poor actors stumbling through absurdly soapy dialogue, wasting their time doing something that requires far more concentration to work," said film critic Benjamin Lee in The Guardian, giving the film only 2/5 stars.

However, the audience also praised Mea Culpa for Rowland's acting skills. "Don't let the script distract you from the fact that Kelly Rowland did such a great job! I would love to see her beautiful face in movies more!" wrote X social network user expensivebadone.

"The story was interesting. It had a lot of gaps in it and to say it was bad would be an exaggeration. The city looked great, the artwork was fire, and the twist was a surprise. The public is set to hate Tyler," Precise_Chi said.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Netflix will show a nine-episode documentary series "Tipping Point: The Bomb and the Cold War" about seven world leaders, including President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
