Netflix has hired Russian actress Lera Abova: she will play a genocide victim while Russia kills Ukrainians

Netflix has announced the second season of the popular anime adaptation of "One Piece," based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda. However, fans noticed a Russian actress in the company's official press release. Russian Lera Abova has joined the team and will play one of the key roles – the character of Robin, who suffered from the genocide of her people.

According to Suspilne, the music for the first season was composed by Russian composer Sonya Belorusova. Such decisions by "One Piece" casting directors outraged netizens. In particular, a heated discussion arose on the X platform, as Ukrainian fans did not hold back their emotions.

"You should know the incredible anger and disappointment I feel because the character who suffered from the genocide of her own nation will be played by a person whose people are committing genocide for the first time," wrote one of the series' viewers.

"This is just disgusting. She supports Russian terrorism in Ukraine. You may have forgotten, but Russia is killing hundreds and thousands of Ukrainians every day, and you're just like, we don't care because we support terrorists," said another user.

"The role of a genocide survivor is played by a Russian? While the Russians are committing genocide in the center of Europe? It's like a German playing a Jew in 1945," another fan added.

Some "One Piece" fans said they would ignore the series after the news because they disagreed with the views of its creators: "Have you ever thought about what it's like for Ukrainian fans when you choose a Russian actress? You had a lot of talented actresses to choose from, but you chose the one from a terrorist country. For me, this series is dead. I'm unsubscribing from your service."

As you know, the plot of the series revolves around the pirate Monkey D. Luffy, who travels the seas with his team of Straw Hats. The protagonist seeks to win the title of Pirate King and find the legendary treasure of Gold Roger – One Piece.
