Netflix has announced the release date of the second season of "The Squid Game"

Netflix has announced the release date of the second season of "The Squid Game" series, which became a sensation in 2021. It will premiere on December 26, 2024, shortly before the New Year.

Netflix also showed the trailer for the second season on YouTube. The video is concise but verbose: the fight for the reward will be fierce and not everyone will reach the goal alive.

The movie company also announced the approximate release date of the third season – 2025. It is supposed to be the final one. Probably, this is the reason why the filming of the series started a long time ago and dragged on for several years.

In the center of the plot, the main character Song Gi Hoon (Player 456), a loser who has fallen into debt, has to fulfill his mission: to track down and stop the depraved people on the other side of the game. He finds a man who lures him into the subway at the beginning of the first season, as it is the only way to get behind the scenes.

However, to do so, he will have to re-enter the deadly game.

In particular, Netflix published a letter from Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk:

"It's been almost three years since Season 1 received an incredible response around the world, and many incredible things have happened. I'm very excited to be writing this letter to announce the release date of Season 2 and share the news about Season 3, the final season.

On the first day, we started filming Season 2, I remember thinking: "Wow, I can't believe I'm back in the world of The Squid Game. It was almost surreal. I wonder how you will feel when you return to Squid Game in three years.

Song Gi Hoon, who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and rejoins the game. Will he succeed in taking revenge? The protagonist doesn't seem to be an easy opponent this time around. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue in the series finale, Season 3, which will be released next year.

I'm very happy to see that the seeds that were sown during the creation of the new Squid Game will germinate and bear fruit by the end of this story.

We will do our best to provide you with another exciting adventure. I hope you're looking forward to what's next. Thank you very much and see you soon."

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that 79-year-old actor Oh Yeon-soo, who played the grandfather gambler number 001 in the TV series Squid Game, was sentenced to 8 months in prison and two years of probation for an incident that occurred in 2017.
