Negotiations with Trump did not help Putin: US extends sanctions against Russia
US President Donald Trump has extended a number of sanctions previously imposed on Russia. Trump's decision states that the sanctions will last for another year.
This was reported by the White House. It is noted that the presidential decree will apply to sanctions imposed in 2014, 2018, and 2022 due to the "threat to the territorial integrity of Ukraine." However, the official document has not yet been published.
According to Trump, these restrictions should remain in effect after March 6, 2025, as they are aimed at countering the threat to Ukraine's territorial integrity.
It is worth noting that earlier that day, Trump allowed sanctions against Russia to be lifted. But only on the condition of peace in Ukraine. "Right now, we have not agreed to lift sanctions on anyone," the US president said.
In addition, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the rest of the West would have to lift sanctions against Russia if Ukraine and Russia reach a peace agreement. However, he believes that the final parameters of the settlement should satisfy all parties, and the European Union should also be involved in this process.
It is worth noting that Trump had previously raised concerns among European and Ukrainian politicians because of his contacts with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, with whom he had several phone conversations.
"I am having serious talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war, as well as major economic development agreements between the United States and Russia," the White House chief said in this regard.
At the same time, OBOZ.UA has already reported that in Russia itself, the situation is less rosy. In particular, the head of Sberbank German Gref urged to prepare for the fact that the United States may not ease, but even strengthen sanctions. "We are proceeding from the scenario that no sanctions will be lifted. Moreover, we are proceeding from the situation that the sanctions will be strengthened," Gref said.
