For many Europeans, the Maldives remains a dream vacation and leisure destination with its white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, and luxurious resorts. However, this is not a cheap pleasure, in particular, because of the difficult path that needs to be overcome to reach this tropical paradise.

Meanwhile, off the coast of India, you can find an equally beautiful archipelago, where a vacation will cost a much smaller amount. According to the Express, we are talking about the Andaman Islands. They offer vacationers not only luxurious conditions, but also much more peace, because there are also fewer tourists here than in the Maldives. The beaches here are just as picturesque, and the coastal waters are home to many exotic fish and animals.

Located halfway between India and Myanmar, this remote archipelago consists of more than 325 volcanic islands and islets. Together with the Nicobar Islands to the south, the Andaman Islands are the maritime border between the western Bay of Bengal and the eastern Andaman Sea. Most of the islands are part of the union territory of India, while the Coco Islands and Preparis Island belong to Myanmar.

The reefs surrounding the archipelago are among the most biodiverse in India. They contain about 200 species of coral, as well as extensive mangroves and seagrass meadows. Some rare species of marine creatures, such as dugongs, relatives of manatees, like to settle in these thickets.

Among the most beautiful beaches in the archipelago is Radhanagar Beach, which is located on Havelock Island. It is called one of the best in Asia. And on Kala Pathar beach, you can enjoy a stunning sunrise almost alone – there are very few tourists here.

Several national parks are open for those who want to dive even deeper into the local wildlife. For example, North Button Island National Park is home to many species of animals, and Campbell Bay offers rich aquatic life and camping.

As for historical sites, you can visit the Cellular Jail, a former British colonial prison, now known for its sound and light show. Ross Island, once occupied by the British and Japanese, is also worth a visit. Now it is abandoned.

You can get to the Andaman Islands via Port Blair – flights fly here from most airports in mainland India. And then you can take a short boat ride to Havelock Island. With direct flights from northern India and several great boutique hotels to choose from, these islands offer the perfect peaceful getaway.

However, tourists are warned to stay away from North Sentinel Island, which has been named the most dangerous island in the world not because of the animals that live there, but because of its indigenous people. Local residents defend their homes by force, so traveling here is prohibited.
