Months in which long-livers are born: they have the best chance of living to 100

Scientists have conducted a new study on longevity

Scientists have stated that people born in September, October, or November have a higher chance of becoming long-livers compared to those born in March. This pattern was discovered by researchers from the NORC Center for Demography and Economics of Aging at the University of Chicago.

The results were published on the website of the US National Library of Medicine. The authors reported that they conducted a series of intra-family studies (1574 long-livers born in the United States in 1880-1895) to analyze the effect of the month of birth on longevity, which does not depend on the seasonality of birth and death of the child, childhood conditions, or genetic background.

The researchers believe that the results "support the idea of programming aging and longevity at an early age."

A comparison of the distribution by month of birth of long-livers and their siblings who died at an earlier age showed statistically significant differences: the calculations indicate an excess of long-livers born in September-November and a shortage of long-livers born in March, May, and July.

"Being born in the spring months was associated with a decreased chance of living to the age of 100, while being born in the fall months significantly increased the chances of living to the centenary," the authors said in the study.

As OBOZ.UA wrote earlier:

- Scientists have found that Alzheimer's disease can be transmitted from person to person. However, this happens in isolated medical cases. There is no evidence of transmission in everyday life or during caregiving.

- Earlier, genealogist Olha Mykhailichenko explained why hundreds of Ukrainians who are not related can share a common surname.
