Almost every major IT company is currently working on releasing its system or function based on artificial intelligence. Meta Platforms, which owns such social networks as Facebook and Instagram, as well as the WhatsApp messenger, is no exception.

According to Reuters, the company has started developing its own AI-based search engine, thus aiming to reduce its dependence on Alphabet services (a conglomerate that owns Google search engine, among other things).

According to reports that cite sources close to the development strategy, Meta's search engine will provide verbal answers to queries about current events using Meta AI. It will be available in a chatbot on WhatsApp, as well as on Instagram and Facebook.

Currently, all these platforms rely on Google and Bing search engines to provide users with answers about news, markets, and sports. At the same time, Google is now working to integrate its newest and most powerful AI model, Gemini, into them. The goal is to provide users with a more intuitive search experience. At the same time, OpenAI relies on its largest investor, Microsoft, to provide answers to topical queries using Bing.

At the same time, experts have expressed concerns that collecting web data to train AI models and search engines may infringe on copyrights and deprive content creators of fair compensation for their work. The other day, Meta announced that its AI-based chatbot would, among other things, use Reuters content to answer users' questions in real time about news and current events.
