McDonald's is going to open several new restaurants in Ukraine: cities named

The fast-food chain McDonald's intends to open 6 new restaurants in Ukraine in 2024. In particular, new restaurants are expected to appear in Uzhhorod and Chernivtsi.

This was announced by Yulia Badritdinova, CEO of McDonald's Ukraine. She noted that new restaurants are also planned to open in Kyiv's satellite cities.

"Uzhhorod and Chernivtsi are the only regional centers without McDonald's. We will open there this year. We plan to develop in Kyiv's satellites as well," she said in a statement.

At the same time, Badritdinova noted that in 2023, McDonald's invested UAH 1 billion in opening new and renovating old restaurants. The funds were provided by the company's headquarters in the United States.

Why it is important

After the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, McDonald's closed all of its restaurants in Ukraine. The company explained that it did so for security reasons.

However, since September 2022, McDonald's has reopened more than 60% of its restaurants in the center and west of the country, which was perceived by many Ukrainians as one of the important signs that the security situation in the country is improving. It is noteworthy that even the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined the negotiations on the opening of the restaurants.

Moreover, in 2023, the company began opening its restaurants near major highways in Ukraine. The total area of such establishments was over 1500 square meters.

A strong competitor for Rozetka will appear in Ukraine

At the same time, one of the largest marketplaces in Turkey, Hepsiburada, decided to enter the Ukrainian market. However, at first, in a test format. However, if the results are satisfactory, the company will enter Ukraine in full. Moreover, they are ready for this step even despite the ongoing full-scale war unleashed by Russia.

According to Bloomberg, Hepsiburada's entry into the Ukrainian market is part of a long-term recovery strategy after its stock prices have fallen since it went public on Nasdaq in 2021. At the same time, the company itself calls Ukraine "a challenging but important market for Turkey." In addition, they are quite optimistic about the country's post-war recovery.

"This is a strategic investment for us. In the future, the situation in Ukraine will normalize, and we want to be ready for that. ...Ukraine already provides [certain] opportunities, given the problems its residents face when searching for goods both within the country and by resorting to cross-border transportation with extended delivery times," Hepsiburada explained.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, at the end of 2023, a new McDonald's restaurant opened its doors to visitors in the Pechersk district of Kyiv. It is located on Mikhnovsky Boulevard, near the transport interchange near the Paton Bridge.
