Japanese automaker Mazda has unveiled a new logo. The company needed to update it after it decided to try to conquer the market of more luxurious cars.

According to Car and Driver magazine, the updated icon is flatter visually, and its wings are angled rather than having a smooth shape like the previous version. Mazda has already applied for registration of the new trademark in Japan.

The need for changes arose after the company decided to move to the production of more complex and well-equipped cars. These include the CX-90 SUV.

Visually, the Mazda logo hasn't changed much. It still has the shape of an oval with the letter M inscribed in it, stylized as two outstretched wings. However, the outer ring is now more rounded compared to the old version. The wings, on the contrary, have a pronounced angle and are less smooth. In addition, the nameplate with this logo has become flat. It no longer has any volume and does not protrude above the body surface.

This is the badge that can be seen on the concept of the elegant Arata SUV, which was presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Experts speculate that the updated logo may be exclusive to China, where Mazda has a joint venture with Chinese automaker Changan.

Nevertheless, the publication emphasized that the Japanese concern is expected to undergo a global rebranding, the key element of which will be a change of logo. The current Mazda logo has existed since 1997, when the brand moved away from the style of the nineties, in which the circle was inside the oval.
