Marvel releases trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man animated series
The animated lineup of the Spider-Man adventures from Marvel Studios will soon be replenished with a new project. The animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Disney+, and Marvel has released the first trailer.
The video was published on its YouTube channel. It gained more than 3 million views in the first day. The series premiere is scheduled for January 29.
The plot centers on a teenager named Peter Parker, who gains spider superpowers. However, his mentor will not be Iron Man, but Norman Osborn, the alter ego of the Green Goblin villain.
Young American actor Hudson Thames voiced the main character. The role of Osborne went to Colman Domingo, who also brought to life the main character of the cult animation BoJack Horseman. Kari Wahlgren is Aunt May, and Hugh Dancy is Otto Octavius. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise their roles from the Netflix series Daredevil.
The trailer also shows two new Spider-Man costumes. One is sporty with a hockey jersey and sneakers that really fit a teenager. The other one is more futuristic and is made in white and black colors.
The trailer also tells a short story about Spider-Man. A guy in a superhero costume detains some villains who are live streaming as he takes their phone and points the camera at them, tying them up with a web. "Just consider it a good deed from your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man," Parker says. Then he points the camera at himself and adds, "That’s me, by the way. I am Spider-Man."
It is worth noting that Tom Holland is currently the one who plays Spider-Man in feature films. He has been embodying the character since 2016 and has since returned to the role five times. His latest movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021, became the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time.
Before Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise was developed by director Sam Raimi for Sony Pictures. He directed three films in 2002, 2004 and 2007. Tobey Maguire was the male lead back then. In 2012, Sony rebooted the series, casting Andrew Garfield as the main hero. All three actors once reunited on the screen in one of the episodes of "No Way Home".
