Keanu Reeves shares promising update on a sequel to legendary Constantine movie

Fans of the cult movie Constantine can rejoice, as there is a high probability that the long-awaited sequel will finally see the light of day. Keanu Reeves, the lead actor, shared optimistic news about the development of the sequel. After many years of waiting, it looks like the story of John Constantine will continue.

Keanu Reeves, who played John Constantine in the original 2005 film, said that after ten years of trying to get it made, the movie has finally reached the script writing stage. According to the actor, they presented the story to DC Studios and received a positive response, The Independent reports.

Despite the fact that Reeves has always expressed a desire to return to this role, the official confirmation of the sequel appeared only in September 2022. Based on the Hellblazer comics, Constantine tells the story of John Constantine, a demon hunter who finds himself in the center of a supernatural war between angels and demons.

So far, the details of the sequel's plot are kept secret, but Reeves hinted that John Constantine will face new challenges. The actor also confirmed that the sequel will take place in the same world as the original movie.

Reeves did not hide the fact that he had to work hard to convince Warner Bros. to give the green light for the sequel. According to him, he approached the studio almost every year with a request for a sequel but was denied.

Director Francis Lawrence, who worked on the original film, also confirmed his participation. He said that he agreed only after it became clear that Reeves and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman would have creative "control" over the character.
