"It's safer in Russia": football player who ran away from Shakhtar will receive Russian citizenship
The father of Shakhtar Donetsk footballer Oleksandr Rosputko, Yuriy, confirmed that his son fled to Russia after the UEFA League match with Belgian side Antwerp. The 19-year-old native of Horlivka intends to seek citizenship of the terrorist state.
Yuriy Rosputko said this in a comment to the propaganda news agency REGNUM. According to him, the traitor to Ukraine did not ask for political asylum in Russia. At the same time, Rosputko Sr. did not name the reasons for the football player's escape, mentioning security.
"I can't tell you the reason why Sasha left Shakhtar yet. I can say that he will definitely be safer in Russia. The information about his application for political asylum is not true. My son did not ask for it. He will simply apply for a Russian passport, as he would have done in his homeland of Donetsk. Now we shouldn't expect Sasha to play for any team. He is very tired of everything. He is relaxing and resting for now, and we will see," said Yuriy Rosputko.
Before the match against Antwerp, Oleksandr agreed to sign a new five-year contract with the Donetsk club. In the game in Belgium, he played all 90 minutes. After the match, Rosputko disappeared, and all Shakhtar representatives could find was the player's neatly folded uniform at the airport. The Donetsk club responded to the player's disappearance by issuing an ultimatum.
Former Ukrainian national team player Artem Fedetsky has come down hard on the young footballer. He also suggested why Rosputko had chosen to betray the country.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, sports lawyer Ilya Skoropashkin spoke about the consequences that await Oleksandr Rosputko after he left Shakhtar.
