It only takes 30 seconds: what to do to make spathiphyllum bloom better in summer
Spathiphyllums are fairly undemanding plants, but mistakes in care can be very costly. Usually, problems arise with watering. With insufficient moisture, the flowers begin to dry out, and with excessive moisture, mold and root rot appear.
Florist Natalie Anstey noted that most people don't water their spathiphyllums enough when the weather gets warmer, which can greatly affect the health of the plant and lead to it not blooming. For spathiphyllum to bloom better in summer, it is important to master the correct care technique.
Spathiphyllums need to adjust their watering regime with the change of season. During the growing season, which usually falls in spring and summer, the plant will be more thirsty due to increased light and growth activity.
Usually, instead of a quick one-time watering, the spathiphyllum prefers thorough, consistent moistening.
You should water the plant at the base so that the water can pass through the soil and reach the roots. Continue watering until excess water begins to pour out of the bottom – this will ensure proper watering throughout the season.
"This not only ensures that the roots are getting enough moisture but also helps to flush out any salt build-up in the soil," the florist said.
Be careful not to wet the leaves directly, which can lead to fungal problems.
You shouldn't water the plant on schedule; it's much more effective to make sure the soil is slightly dry before watering.
"As a general rule, watering once a week can work. However, it is important to check the soil before each watering. Stick your finger a few centimeters into the soil – if it feels dry, it's time to water. If it's still wet, give it a few days," Anstey emphasized.
Be sure to use water at room temperature, not cold, as extreme temperatures can damage the plant.
Periodically wiping the leaves with a damp cloth will promote efficient photosynthesis, which indirectly affects water absorption.
