On the afternoon of June 9, a rare natural phenomenon was spotted in the Lviv region - a thunderstorm collar. This is a huge cloud that occurs mainly before heavy precipitation.

The unusual phenomenon was noticed in different parts of the Lviv region. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Typical Lviv".

Residents of the Lviv region shared photos of the storm collar. Huge black clouds covered the regional center and many other settlements in the region.

"Today the whole Lviv region is covered by such a cloud. Perhaps these are storm clouds, as forecasters are predicting rain today," the statement said.

According to weather forecasters, heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected in the Lviv region on June 9.

In science, a thunderstorm collar is called Cumulonimbus arcus. It is a type of cumulonimbus cloud that looks like a long shaft. The cloud resembles a cross-section of a horizontal wedge.

This type of cloud is most often formed at the boundary of atmospheric fronts, always at the leading edge of a thunderstorm. Heavy rain and gusty winds usually appear at the epicenter of formation.

The formation of such clouds occurs when the lower air layer is unstable and there should be moderate winds. This often occurs when the upper air is weakening, for example, in anticyclonic conditions, and is common when fog forms immediately. Convection occurs below the inversion, with air rising in the thermal below the clouds and sinking into the air between the streets.

As a reminder, thunderstorms are expected in almost all regions of Ukraine at the start of the new week on June 10. But along with the precipitation will come a heat wave of up to +34 degrees. The highest temperature is expected in the southeast of the country in the coming days.

Earlier it was reported that a large part of Ukraine was hit by severe weather with thunderstorms and hail on June 8. During a thunderstorm in Ternopil, lightning struck the roof of a high-rise building.
