In the new third season of HBO's comedy-drama series White Lotus, controversial Serbian Milos Bykovic will be replaced by Bulgarian actor Julian Kostov, known for his role in the TV series Shadow and Bone. The pro-Russian Bykovic was forced to leave the project on February 3 after criticism from viewers and the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly before filming began.
On Instagram, Yulian Kostov spoke about his delight at being invited to White Lotus, which will be filmed on the islands of Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok in Thailand. Over the past decade, the actor has built his career in the UK, playing roles in English, as well as in Spanish (in the film PR Girl), Italian (in the film Back), Polish (in the film Wild Bill) and Romanian (in the film Temple), Deadline reports.
"Nothing I can write can convey how I feel. I'm just incredibly happy, grateful, and excited to join this team of incredible artists in season 3 of White Lotus," Kostov expressed his emotions about participating in the series.
Interestingly, the actor often had to play the role of Russians because of his knowledge of Russian language: in the series "Shadow and Bone" (the role of Fyodor Kaminsky), "Berlin Residency" (the role of Sergey Bazarov), "Treadstone" (the role of Yuri Lenov) and in the video game Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III (the role of Vladimir Makarov).
It is worth noting that the first season of White Lotus, which was set in Hawaii, received 20 Emmy nominations in 13 categories and earned 10 statuettes. The second season was set in Sicily, Italy. Back then, the series received 23 Emmy nominations and won only five trophies.
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
- first, the streaming company HBO published a list of actors who will star in the new season of "White Lotus". Among them, viewers noticed a native of Serbia and a supporter of the "Russian world" Milos Bykovic, and therefore announced that they would boycott the series;
- Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also reacted to the participation of a pro-Russian actor in the series but received no response from HBO.
