Persistent rumors promise us another Apple presentation in November. According to insiders, the American tech giant intends to show users the seventh-generation iPad mini tablet.
Mac Rumors reminds us that the last update of the tablet lineup took place three years ago. And the characteristics of the new model have already been leaked online. And here is what is known at the moment.
Design and display
The new iPad mini is likely to retain its compact 8.3-inch display and overall design, which are characteristic of the sixth generation. However, it will fix the problem of "jelly scrolling" by rotating the screen. This will minimize the noticeable delay when scrolling vertically in portrait orientation. Users of the sixth iPad mini complained about it very often.
Improved performance
While the iPad Pro and iPad Air now boast M-series chips, the iPad mini 7 is expected to remain on A-series chips. Most likely, the new model will be equipped with either the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone 15 Pro or the A18 chip from the iPhone 16. This update should provide a significant performance boost over the A15 Bionic in the current model, as well as support for Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features.
Improved connectivity
The new iPad mini will almost certainly include support for Wi-Fi 6E. This will allow it to connect wirelessly to the 6 GHz band on compatible routers. The gadget is also expected to work with Bluetooth 5.3. In terms of mobile communications, the new iPad mini may switch to eSIM, potentially eliminating the physical nano-SIM slot.
Camera improvements
Apple may move the front camera to the horizontal edge, as it did in the latest iPad Air. This change will potentially improve the quality of video calls, especially when using the device in a horizontal orientation. The camera may also receive updates such as HDR 4 support and a wider aperture.
Compatibility with Apple Pencil
The iPad mini 7 will most likely support the Apple Pencil Pro, which introduced features such as pinch gestures, haptic feedback, and Find My integration. Apple Pencil Pro's hover function may also be available.
Color options
While the current iPad mini is available in Space Gray, Starlight, Pink, and Purple, the new model may use a color palette similar to the iPad Air. This could mean the addition of blue to the lineup and the exclusion of pink.
Release and price
As stocks of the latest iPad mini in stores are dwindling, the release of an updated gadget in November seems more and more likely. Moreover, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman recently said that Apple might release a new iPad mini along with the new M4 Macs at the very beginning of November. The price of the updated tablet is likely to remain unchanged and start at $499 for the Wi-Fi model from official retailers.
Future iPad models
Apple is rumored to be developing a foldable iPad mini and introducing OLED display technology into the device. But neither of these updates is expected in 2024. The new screen and folding body will be available no earlier than 2026-2027, and maybe even later.
