iOS 18 is available now: what new features are available

Apple users can now access iOS 18. The operating system offers the most extensive redesign ever in Photos, as well as significant improvements to Messages and Mail. Soon, iOS 18 will introduce Apple Intelligence, Apple's AI system.

Users can now customize the home screen in a new way, placing app icons and widgets in a wallpaper frame or creating the perfect layout on each page. More details were revealed on Apple's official website.

Photos redesign

The biggest update to Photos has made it easier to find photos. The new collections automatically organize your image library using smart tools on your device.

Message Formatting

Formatting options such as bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough allow users to better convey the tone of a message. iOS 18 offers new text effects that bring words, phrases, and sentences to life. Emoji and Tapbacks stickers give users multiple ways to react and comment. Users can also create an iMessage to send later.

Recording conversations

It is now possible to record and transcribe live calls. Call participants are notified before recording starts, and transcripts are conveniently stored in Notes.

Intelligent categorization in mail

Categorization in mail, which will become available a little later, organizes the message. The "Main" section will allow users to focus on the most important messages. Transactions, updates, and promotions will be grouped by sender in a new digest.

Browse the web in Safari without distractions

Safari on iOS 18 offers even more options for web browsing. Users will be able to hide elements on a web page that often interfere with browsing, such as banners or ads.

Passwords

Passwords is a new Keychain-based program that makes it easier for users to access their passwords and view all their credentials: passwords, passcodes and codes. Passwords is backed by secure end-to-end encryption and is synchronized across devices. Passwords alerts if a password has been used multiple times or appears in a known data leak.

Privacy features

iOS 18 gives users tools to control who can view their apps. Locked and hidden apps provide reassurance that information users want to keep private won't be available to others.

Additional features

Gaming has improved with more stable frame rates, especially during long gamer sessions.

Users have new ways to pay with Apple Pay online and in iPhone and iPad apps.

In Notes, math formulas and equations entered during text entry will be solved instantly.

Emergency SOS Live Video allows users to share context through streaming video and recorded media. During an emergency call, emergency dispatchers can send the user a request to share live video or media files from the user's camera over a secure connection, making it easier and faster to get help.

In the Health app, the medical ID has been updated to make it even easier for first responders to find critical information in an emergency.
