Impossible to live: one of the "loudest" cities on the planet named

Yulia PoteriankoNews

Most of us expect silence from a vacation spot because it's the low noise level that allows us to really relax. However, according to a study, one city in India turned out to be so noisy that it is impossible not only to relax there but the level of noise pollution is called life-threatening.

According to the Express, it is the Indian city of Mumbai, the largest metropolis and a popular tourist center in the country. According to some measurements, the noise level during peak hours can reach 100 decibels. At the same time, noise starting at 80 dB is considered dangerous.

The World Health Organization suggests that healthy noise levels should not exceed 55 decibels during the day and 40 at night. Exceeding these thresholds can pose a serious health hazard to those close to the source of such noise.

Speaking of Mumbai, the main sources of loud sounds here are construction, fireworks, car horns, and loudspeakers. At least the local authorities are trying to fight the latter.

Recently, the Mumbai High Court instructed the police to take urgent action on complaints about noise pollution caused by religious buildings. Local churches install loudspeakers to call the faithful to prayer. The court ruled that no religion considers these devices to be an integral aspect of worship, so the temples must abandon this practice.

However, not only Mumbai is famous for its constant noise. The Egyptian capital of Cairo is also not a place to take a break from the sounds of the city. Noise pollution has also reached alarming levels here, with local residents complaining of irritability and hearing problems, and some deaths have been linked to noise.

According to the Egyptian National Research Center, the average noise level in Cairo is 90 dB and never drops below 70 dB. This can be compared to if you spent the whole day in a factory. In addition to noise pollution, the Egyptian capital has one of the highest levels of air pollution in the world. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) is 160, which is far beyond healthy levels. An AQI of about 36 is considered normal. The WHO indicates that the concentration of particulate matter in the Cairo air reached 68.4 µg/m³, which is significantly higher than the safe limit of 5 µg/m³.
