"I'm afraid to even say that this is a war": Lukashenko speaks on the idea of Belarus joining Russia and mentions Ukraine

Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko has spoken out about Belarus' accession to Russia. According to him, "this is not the way to put the question" and those representatives of the Russian authorities who speak of such an accession are advocating "the impossible and unrealizable."

Lukashenko insists on creating a "union state" as an alternative to the absorption of Belarus by Russia, which he characterized as a "war." The self-proclaimed "president" said this in an interview with the Russian propaganda outlet Izvestia.

In a conversation with the propagandists, Lukashenka said that he opposes the transformation of Belarus into a part of the Russian Federation and criticized representatives of the Russian ruling elite who support this idea.

"You are smaller, we are bigger, and our economy is like this. We will help you and continue to join Russia. This is not the way to put the question. It is impossible and cannot be realized. I'm even afraid to say that this is a war. But you see our relationship with Putin. A lot of negotiations, contacts, personal and otherwise. We have never had this issue before. Well, in Russia, someone in high places cannot calm down. It needs to be thrown out," the Belarusian dictator said.

He also added that he sees no point in Belarus becoming part of the Russian Federation, insisting that the creation of a "union state" is much more beneficial for both countries.

"And then, why is it necessary? Why is it necessary? I often say that Putin and I are not stupid people. Forgive my immodesty. And we have enough specialists to build such close relations in the Union State, to create this Union State, having two sovereign states, and we have taken a stab at it. I was the initiator of this back in the days of Yeltsin. We can build relations that will be closer and stronger than in a unitary state. And no one will be offended by anyone. We need this," Lukashenko said.

The self-proclaimed Belarusian ruler also said that war as a way of expanding a state in the 21st century cannot lead to anything good, and cited the example of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

"Yes, today you can bend and conquer something, but tomorrow what? Well, let's say Russia conquered Ukraine. What then? Whenever taking a step, a smart, wise politician should think: "What's next?" That's why Putin, as he often says, has never had the task of conquering. We often discuss the question of "what's next?" Can such a huge country be crushed without consequences? No. What do we want to get, that there will always be guerrilla warfare there, and they will carry out terrorist attacks against us and the Russians? They will do it. Why? Because they will be pushed to do so. They will be brought explosives at any time. These are at least terrorist attacks," Lukashenko emphasized.

"That's why the world is like this now, it's not the Middle Ages, when you seized the territory, paid taxes and it was fine – the world has changed, the world is different. Therefore, we should not set stupid goals for ourselves, and we should always think about what will happen next," he added.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko hinted that he would not fight against Ukraine. He also questioned Putin's efforts to attract soldiers from the DPRK. According to Lukashenko, Russian troops do not need help, and if a third country's military forces are involved, NATO will allegedly deploy its troops in Ukraine in response.
