Ideal for a family: what are the pros and cons of the new car Honda Pilot
The restyled Honda Pilot SUV is a great option for a large family. The auto has a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 285 horsepower. The Pilot balances its rather sharp shape with clean lines and harmonious proportions.
Honda has an attractive and stylish interior, though particularly finicky drivers may find the layout a bit dated. That's helped by the 9.0-inch tablet-style touchscreen - it's definitely smaller than most others in this segment. Experts talked about all the advantages and disadvantages of the new model.
Honda's software suite is simple and intuitive to use, voice control works well enough, and wireless connectivity will be seamless and almost instantaneous.
A 10.2-inch driver display, available in higher trims, is available for an extra charge. It only supplements the navigation and doesn't come with many configurations.
Honda keeps a simple set of knobs and buttons below the center screen for climate and seating functions.
All of this goes along with the Pilot's core mission: to safely and comfortably transport people to their destinations. It is one of the most spacious in the midsize segment and there is plenty of room behind the third row for cargo. As for the removable seat section, it fits neatly into a small storage compartment under the floor at the rear. Most importantly, the various configurations are extremely easy to customize.
The 3.5-liter V-6 engine puts out 285 horsepower, and the 10-speed automatic doesn't complain about shifting gears. There's enough power here to blend into heavy traffic on the highway, and the suspension can handle bumps in the road. Despite its size, the Pilot is as easy to drive as the Civic.
However, experts emphasize that there are similar SUVs with more power that handle better and perform better.
There have also been complaints about the uncomfortable driver's seat - the bottom of the seat feels very stiff. It's not something you'll notice on a short test drive, but on longer trips, disappointment is possible.
The starting price of $55675 puts the Pilot among competitors with more power, better tech and, frankly, a bit more personality. The EX-L with all-wheel drive, however, costs $10,000 less and you get almost the same equipment.
"While I've never been thrilled with the Pilot's handling, I felt relaxed and safe behind the wheel, regardless of weather or traffic," summarized the Motor1 reviewer.
